Vision and Mission

Forest Resources and Management program focuses on fundamentals teaching, investigation and research on forestry science for the conservation and management of forest resources, especially forest ecology, biodiversity, local wisdom and community-based resource management, application of modern technology, forest restoration, assessment of the role of forests in terms of tree species diversity, carbon sequestration, both in natural forests, planted forests and urban trees and also ecosystem services.

We are Forest Resources and Management at Maejo University in Chiang Mai “FRM-MJU-CM”.

Our Mission and Vision are grounded in six fundamental values:

Forestry: Forestry science will be a driving force for stability in the agricultural sector amid economic and social changes.

Responsibility: We encourage environmental stewardship and responsible behavior on campus and beyond.

Management: We management the forest resources, under socialization process, modernization using technology and innovation, motivativ​e a sustainable future that respect the biodiversity values.

Justices: We support and drive the management of forest resources to create environmental justices.

Unity: We have a distinct identity based on the unity of Maejo Forestry, unit our teaching, policy work, and outreach through partnerships across the university and beyond.

Community: We offer a community that finds strength in its collegiality, diversity, independence, commitment to excellence, and lifelong learning.

Guiding Principles

In pursuit of our Mission and Vision, we:

  • Integrate theory and practice to propose solutions to society's most pressing forest resource and environmental challenges.
  • Address environmental challenges at multiple scales and contexts, from local to regional.
  • Create opportunities for research, policy application, and professional development, fostering collaborative networks both nationally and internationally.
  • Pay particular attention to the most critical threats to a sustainable future, including climate change, an aging society, and increasing stress on our natural resources.

Statement of Environmental Policy

As faculty, staff, and students of the Forest Resources and Management program, we affirm our commitment to responsible stewardship of the environment of our campus, university forest, the city of Chiang Mai, and the other sites of our teaching, research, professional, and social activities.

During these activities, we will strive to:

  • Reduce our use of natural resources
  • Support the sustainable production of the resources we need by purchasing renewable, reusable, recycled, and recyclable materials
  • Minimize the use of toxic substances and activities that generate greenhouse gases
  • Reduce the amount of waste we generate and promote strategies to reuse and recycle unavoidable waste
  • Restore the environment where possible
